The exciting plans for The Triangle in Yeovil Town Centre began this week (20 June) as part of the South Somerset District Council Yeovil Refresh project.

 Work began last week (1 November) in Wine Street, Yeovil to help make the town centre more accessible and easier to move around.

Work is set to begin in Yeovil from Monday 20 September which will help improve the look of the town centre and fundamentally change how you can move around, making it easier and more accessible.

The detailed designs for the public realm enhancements (how the area will look overall) of Yeovil town centre as part of the Yeovil Refresh project are in their final stages as work on the project continues.

SSDC's Executive Committee approved the latest version of the Public Realm Design guide for Yeovil town centre and Shopfront guide for formal consultation in November and now you have an opportunity to have your say on both the guides.

Shoppers will be able to shop feeling a lot safer in the coming weeks when a Traffic Regulation Order is implemented as part of the Yeovil Refresh work. The TRO will help to reduce the amount of vehicles travelling into the town centre via the High Street.

South Somerset District Council has submitted its application to Somerset County Council for a Traffic Regulation Order which will seek to pedestrianise the top end of Middle Street in Yeovil town centre, following an extensive consultation period.

In 2017, the Council embarked on an ambitious programme to explore how Yeovil town centre could adapt and become a place where people choose to work and shop, choose to spend their leisure time and, of course, choose to live.

Proposals to amend elements of the public realm enhancement works which form part of the Yeovil Refresh project have been agreed by South Somerset District Executive. 

From 31st October 2022 there will be evening/night-time road closures in place on Westminster Street, Yeovil for an approximate period of 8 weeks.

Local people and visitors to Yeovil can now top up with tap water for free, thanks to a new Wessex Water refill point.

Transforming the look of Yeovil’s town centre is set to become a reality as SSDC’s Full Council adopted the Public Realm Design Guide creating a template for any building project that happens in the town centre.

With hundreds of people coming to see the initial designs for the public realm enhancements for Yeovil town centre on Saturday 20 July, comments have been coming in that will help set the direction of the final designs for the public realm in the town centre.

The official public consultation on the application submitted by South Somerset District Council to Somerset County Council for a Traffic Regulation Order to pedestrianise the top end of the street will now begin on Thursday 14 March.

Yeovil town centre is set to receive the highly anticipated transformational changes to the public realm areas following the completion of work

on its final public realm designs. Work will commence in early 2021.

Plans to transform the look of the town centre of Yeovil took a major step forward today when SSDC’s District Executive Committee endorsed the Public Realm Design Guide for adoption by the council.

We are seeking to regenerate the town centre of Yeovil through multiple projects as part of the adopted Yeovil Refresh and the way the town centre looks is being consulted on. Residents, visitors and stakeholders are all urged to have their say.

It is almost a year since we first invited residents and business to learn more about Yeovil Refresh – South Somerset District Council’s ambitious plan to create a town centre that will be a vibrant place to live, work, shop, learn and visit.

South Somerset District Council has begun investigating the possibility of redressing the balance between pedestrians and cars in the town centre and creating a vehicle free area at the top of Middle Street through the use of a TRO.
